A few years ago I bought the NRA gun insurance for homeowners. My regular homeowners ins. only insures firearms for $1,000 total loss. No matter what number of firearms are lost.
So yesterday I got my renewal pages for the NRA ins. I started reading what it now covers and what it does not.
What it does not cover takes two pages.
1.- Loss from faulty ammo, bursting or bulging barrels, mechanical breakdown, malfunction or defect or any loss caused during repair or refinishing.
2.- Infidelity from another person you have loaned the gun to.
3.- loss from hostilities, seizure or destruction while under quarentine or customs regs. confiscation by any gov. or public authority.
4.- loss by people on strike.
5.- nuke damage.
6.- loss by weather if not indoors.
7.- loss or damage if you are a commercial gun dealer.
8.- illegal weapons.
9.- theft from your vehicle unless it was locked and broken into.
10.- no ammo, bayonets or accessories are covered unless they are attached to the firearm when the loss occured..
11.- cannons full size and miniatures.
12.- Clips, magazines, holsters, gun cases unless the gun is included with them as a loss.
13.- Not enough packing when shipping or transporting
14.- If you have a matched pair of firearms and only part of the set is stolen you will only get value of the individual item, not for the loss of value for a former matched set.
Next section lists their valuation section:
actual cash value, not replacement cost.
then if you buy any new firearms you must get a rider to cover it.
I didn't quite understand that part.
If it you have a loss you MUST sue somebody to recover the loss.
About the only things to claim a loss on are burglury, theft, or home fire. Since I live in a small town with few burgluries i have chosen to not renew. i can get a reider for replacement cost and collector value with my homeowners for near the same amount. This covers much more that the NRA coverage.
