I never posted anything about my nephews accident as the chain of events just seemed to be over whelming at the time but our family has so much to be thankful for and wanted to share so that others may believe in miracles too if the need should arise.
On Monday July 2, 2012 my Nephew Tim was driving down a rural blacktop road 3 miles North of my house finishing up his day at work when he evidently dropped a wheel off the pavement, over corrected and rolled the company pickup, throwing him out at some point.
The road is not traveled by many at 3 PM on Mondays but the first person on the scene was an off duty EMT. Tim was found some time and distance from his truck on the opposite side of the road. A flight for Life helicopter flew him from the scene the 120 miles to our nearest hospital that could care for his injuries.
He had severe head trauma, bleeding from his ears, collapsed lung, severe damage to his liver, broken ribs, temporal bone severely broken , broken collar bone, lacerations and abrasions on all of his right side from sliding down the road head first. To make matters even worse it was 105 degrees and the asphalt was very hot causing skin burns and dehydration was in full swing before he was found.
Before Tim's flight ended at the hospital in Columbia Mo we had our Church notified and at least a hundred friends, all were praying for him.
For 2 days Tim was in a coma and on life support, when they tried to remove anything he would stop breathing. They kept his life support going for 2 more days and said they saw good signs of recovery.
Progress may seem slow when you are watching it but today ,11 days after his accident, Tim has been moved to a rehab center, he is texting us on his cell phone, riding a stationary bike, lifting some weights, talking and remembering about everything. He had been diagnosed to probably have great memory loss for at least 6 months and possibly for the rest of his life and may not be able to talk.
Tomorrow they are taking his 3 and 4 year old sons to see him for the first time since the accident so we are hoping they cope well when they see him as he does still have a lot of recovery ahead of him.
I know the Doctors Tim had were among the best as is the hospital but I firmly believe that the Lord intervened and gave them a helping hand in sparing Tim's life and this quite possibly from all the requests he received from friends and family.
To all my family, this should be a valuable lesson to : appreciate everyday we have together, be kind and generous, not take any thing or anyone for granted and thank God for blessing us in good times and now in bad times.
Tim loves to get together with family and BBQ, often once a week in the summer and since we had a hog roast planned for next month I'm going to make him the designated cook.
Just thought I'd share this so if there is anyone facing a problem don't hesitate to ask all of us to say a prayer in your behalf, believe in miracles and the power of our God to answer those prayers that are sincere.
