of wolves up on the hill behind the house. Haven't seen any yet though. Usually hear them right at dark. Did find a fairly fresh whitetail bone pile down by the creek behind the house. Not sure what got it though. Hard to call these wolves small game when they are bigger than alot of deer around here.

I've mixed feelings about them, don't know enough about them so probably should not even comment, but they don't have their place in my neck of the woods. I also hope they allow enough of them to be hunted that they do not become a problem. I would keep myself , family and property safe no matter what the season was, just my thoughts. I will say that when I was in Canada and camped among a pack of wolves for a week it had an interesting feel to it. They ate my scraps, walked in my tracks every morning and we never saw one, they seem to be super intelligent. What does Dakota think about them howling?

I will say that when I was in Canada and camped among a pack of wolves for a week it had an interesting feel to it. They ate my scraps, walked in my tracks every morning and we never saw one, they seem to be super intelligent. What does Dakota think about them howling? Grizz, the wolves are hunted here. Season just closed the end of March in the unit that I now live in. All harvested wolves are supposed to be reported to F&G. The local setiment here is that if one shoots four wolves, only one gets reported. Hunters are allowed two tags per season. Trappers are also allowed two tags per season, but I'm hearing that the number of tags per hunter may be increased this coming season. According to F&G reported wolf harvest, 75 were reported in the unit that I live in. I found it interesting that 33 of the kills were from hunters, and the other 42 from trapping. Wolves have had a dramatic influence on big game. Probably the hardest hit have been the moose. Next would be the elk populations. This coming elk season, the hunt has been reduced to two weeks, and only bulls can be shot. Myself, I haven't had the oppurtunity yet to really get out into the woods other than the ones behind my house. So I really don't have a personal feeling as what to think about the wolves. I read in the paper yesterday, that 75 miles south of here, one of the locals dogs were killed by a pack of wolves. I'm really cautios about letting the dogs out, I"m baby sitting my sons yellow lab, so I got him and Dakota to look after. I know a couple nights ago, a wolf howled right at dark. About an hour later, I went to let the dogs out one last time before bedtime. Neither one of them would get off the back steps. So don't know what to think about that. Sometimes I wish those dogs could talk better, but perhaps they were talking to me by just staying on the steps. Still hoping to get to be a decent shot with my new 45 ACP that I will carry in the woods. Still haven't had time to shoot it though. Wolves definitely make life interesting in this neck of the woods. It certainly does increase one awareness of his surrounding. Perhaps thats a good thing though.
