These numbers were taken directly from the" Missouri Conservationist",
magazine, a publication from my home state Conservation Dept.
I think the numbers are impressive, worth much consideration, so next time we are explaining our case as to why we support hunting, fishing and the outdoors to someone without understanding, just remember these figures from my state.
11.4 Billion dollars is the total economic impact of fish and wildlife recreation and the forest industry in Missouri
More than 1.47 million dollars was paid to Mo counties in 09 for forest cropland payments, levees, drainage district payments, and county aid road trust payments.
31,700 jobs in Mo are supported by the forestry and wood products industry- an industry that generates more than 5.7 billion dollars
64,186 jobs in Mo are supported by the annual expenditures related to fish, forest and wildlife recreation.
211 million dollars is spent each year in
Mo by non-resident anglers and hunters
1.1 billion dollars is generated annually from deer hunting in Mo.This results in 83 million dollars in state and local taxes being collected.
11,824 jobs annually are supported by deer hunting in Mo
324 million dollars in state and local tax revenue is generated annually from fish, forest, and wildlife spending.
After reading this article I feel that I 'm correct in saying that there is still financial impact that hasn't been figured into the equation: such as the value of the meat, fish and other wild edible products that are found in the state. There will be a lot of meals made from this years successful deer hunters for example, and this will help some save money which will most likely be spent on outdoor equipment for next year.
So any one out there that does not like the Outdoors-man, hunting ,fishing, foresters, maybe it's time to learn some facts. Just how much can you afford to pay?
