Got to windy to side my garage this afternoon, but it wasn't to windy to go chase a rooster. Went to a small spot just down the road and turned Dakota loose. Wasn't long and she had me into birds. First up was a hen, then she got me into some roosters. Three got up at one time, and with the 30 MPH winds on their tails, I could only get off one shot before they were long gone. Luckily I brought one bird down, and luckily I had a great dog to find and chase it down after my less than stellar shot. She got me into more birds, but they were all hens, except for one sharptail that was a clean miss. One shot only at that one. As you can see this is a young bird. Come December those will all be longtails and really smart birds, and more fun than ever to hunt. Usually try to take field pics, but my camera batteries were dead, so had to take a pic at home. Just a most enjoyable short hunt today with a great hunting partner.
