When I first started bowhunting. I had a few hunters that I would gather any information they would put in magazines or books. Although most of these guys were categorized as trophy hunters. Their readings could benefit any type of hunter. Myles Keller, who is my all time favorite, had several paragraphs in the one book that I have read numerous times. The title was" For Big Bucks Only". But it was more than a how to book for trophy bucks. It was for all whitetail's. I use to read a lot of his tactics. Noble Carlson although not catagorized as an archer. I use to love his readings on late season hunting. Tracking and reading sign. I also would occasional find articles by Chuck Adams. Some of his adventures are just awesome. It amazes me how far bowhunting has changed some for the good and some for the ,well useless things. Who are some of the bowhunters that you enjoy their readings?

My favorite has to be Doug Kittredge. At one time I believe he was one of the editors for Bow and Arrow magazine. He also owned and operated Kittredge Bow Hut. His book "The Archer's Bible", was the bible for sure. Always looked forward to receiving my copy of the Kitteredge Bow Hunt catalog. If it was archery, it was here along with alot of stories. Went to Kitteredge Bow Hut in Mammoth Lake, Cali one year and met and talked with him for better than 40 minutes. It was an experience I'll never forget. What a great guy he was and still is.

As Kt mentioned I too remember Doug Kittredege, received his catalog and bought supplies from him years ago. Fred Bear was one I paid much attention to when I started bowhunting and followed his movies and tried to shoot as good as he did although I could never keep my cool under stress as he was able to. Today I enjoy reading articles from several archers in the Bowhunting mags, Bill Winke is one I agree with on many occasions and there are many other good hunters with equally good advice. In 1978 I met a fella from Southern Iowa that changed my luck with bowhunting. Up until that point I had only taken some small game and a couple turkey but that turned around for me when I met Tommy Thompson. He was the 1978 National Champion Indoor and PAA Champion, think I have my dates right. Anyway we became friends at an outdoor shoot that one fall day and for the next 15 years we spent weeks on end hunting in North Missouri. He came down and stayed at my hunting cabin and we would hunt for 30 to 40 days each fall. I had a huge turkey population then, he owned an Archery store and would supply me with at cost arrows which I launched at turkey every chance I got. I was still shooting instinctive like Fred and limited out on turkey for 17 straight years, the only time I could ever out score Tommy was hunting turkey. When shooting targets he made me look pretty bad but with a few years of his coaching I actually brought home some trophies from 3d shoots. This guy has lined his walls with huge Iowa Whitetails, bear, hogs, Pronghorn and several other animals and had the largest influence on me of any one I can recall. Once I became successful with a bow many younger cousins and my Bro took up the sport which has expanded to many people that stemmed from that one day meeting a stranger at a Bowshoot.

I'd like to find a copy of that Archers Bible KT. Ya know grizz I actually have a couple of Fred Bears hunts on a Vhs tape my buddy copied for me somewhere. Man if somebody could put together some of that old footage from the early outdoorsmen. I'd snatch it up. I like the old Eastmans journal hunts too. No advertising just wingin it hunts. Love it.
