Out of all your spots or terrain that you hunt. What is either your favorite stand or favorite location. What kind of area is it? My favorite is in a big red oak that sits in a funnel of white birch. The type of funnels that don't really jump out at ya because of the surrounding terrain. The funnel runs through hardwoods and other types of growth. It links two stands of thick white pines.I think its around 50 yds away from the edge of a ridge. Pretty good pre rut spot. And had many encounters when the bucks are cruisin.

My favorite stand sounds much like yours, found by accident years ago on my parents farm. We have hunted this spot for 45 years and it produces several deer each year. It has moved a few yards in those years but not more than a hundred feet. The stand now is a double ladder stand against a large Black Oak, it's location is the highest elevation for about 1 1/2 miles. The land around it falls off rapidly in elevation in all 4 directions. Northwest of the stand there is a thicket of briers and Black Locust trees, NE is mature timber with thick under growth, South is a young timber stand of White Oak/ hickory, East a two acre clover field and just East of that a Cedar thicket of 15 acres. A creek runs by 400 yards to the North that has never been dry. Many years ago there were 3 property owners and the corner post was at this stand site. My father cross fenced his place from this corner also, making it a four way with a gate. The farming habits around this corner has created old trails that the deer use, one old trail was there when my parents bought it in 1950 and is an old logging road we believe. For reasons that are not real noticeable at first, this place is a funnel from all points on your compass. Deer and other game just come by this stand and won't miss it by more than 40 yards most times. When the moon, wind, temperature or other weather conditions are not favorable for hunting I hunt this stand sometimes having to share it with my Bro, son or a cousin, it is a go to place when all else is failing. Last year a young friend from NC hunted it with an hour of season left, down on his luck but within 15 minutes had a deer on the ground. Sent my Grandson there a week later, he hunted an hour and tagged one. I took a doe from it with my bow, my Bro took a doe and his son took a deer from this stand , all of these in about 12 days. When there are several of us hunting this farm there is often a coin toss to see who gets to hunt there. I have 4 more good stands on this farm that have done well but nothing like the Double Ladder stand at the Metal gate. Deer can approach it from ANYWHERE, we can never predict where they will come from and this makes for exciting hunting from a stand. You have to be on the lookout at all times. With all this said it is easy to get into without spooking game, something that happens to me at many other stand sites. I'll admit, I cannot hunt from a stand for long with no action, I have no patience after 2 hours but can sit this one for long hours because it has proved itself so many times.

Well, I guess I dont really a favorite stand location, seeing how this is my first year of dedicating my self to a stand location. BUT the stand ill be sitting in on oct. 2 is on the edge of an apple orchard, with a steep bank begining about 30 yds. behind me. A tractor trail directly in front of me, and at least 4 does that walk within 50 yds of my stand 2-3 times a day. one of them is a good one, problably gonna dress out at atleast 145+.......It's lookin' good.
