I remember this archery season. The rut was crazy. It was Nov 3 rd the first morning everything went nuts. I had just settled into my stand, and deer were breaking downed branches, loud grunts, and hooves pounding the leaf covered ground. As it got light i could start making out outlines. It was then that I saw a huge white rack in the predawn bouncin through some thick junk above me. Then a doe busted from nowhere and ran to my right. Then the big 11 pointer chased her over the hill. A short time later they came back and trotted by me at 30 yds. I tried stoppin him to no avail. He had a one track mind. There were several smaller bucks that went by me for the rest of the morning. The next morning I had a buddy with me. I had to take him to a stand. Light was approaching fast. So I didn't have time to go to a different stand. I went to the stand from the previous day. I was in the stand for 5 minutes. I looked up and thought no way, here that buck comes again! He was walking about 60 yds from me from right to left, and he was alone. i grunted to him ,bleated at him .He looked once and kept on goin. A short time later several does appeared from over the hill. Behind them was a real nice 9 pt. They walked by and he didn't. Then a thick racked 8 pointer came down from above me. he was just about to go over the hill.i hit him with a grunt, then a snort wheeze. He started to trot toward me. I had a white pine in front of me. He went behind it,i came to full draw. But i couldn't tell which side he was comin around it. he popped out at less than ten feet from the base of my tree. i hit him just back from his shoulder blades and shot straight down through him. Center punching his heart he went maybe 10 yds ,stopped and dropped dead. My first 200 lb deer. The mount was very disappointing. Didn't look anything like the buck I shot. Looked quite a bit smaller neck wise.
