Has anyone had any dealings with a Bergarra barrel? They look good and a master gun maker is helping with the process, and priced for the average Joe(like me). Looking for a 7mm-08 for my Encore. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have not heard of this one. But that does not really mean anything due to there are a lot of barrel makers out there. As for their price, they are not much cheaper that some of the top barrel makers out there. Lija, Krieger, Shilen, Douglas, etc and they do hand lap their barrels. You might give some of these a look see. They might not make a barrel for the Encore, but it does not hurt to ask. A master gun maker is helping you? If not, get with a good gun smith, that you trust. So you know what you are getting into. One of the most important things to consider is the twist. What weight of bullet are you going to use? What weight of bullet are you not going to cross over? By that I mean, is there a bullet weight that would be to heavy that you would never think of using. How light of a bullet would you not ever use? The reason this is so important is because if the twist is to fast or to slow it will not stabilize the bullet (the weight range you are going to stay in) past a certain yardage. If the twist is not right, then you have just blown a few hundred dollars. Also take into consideration Bedding after the barrel is built to finish. It will have to be re-bedded. Take into consideration the Head-Space.This is the air space between the bolt/firing pin and the bottom of the casing. The tighter the gap the better the accuracy. Consider the fact that the barrel will need to be re-finished with what ever coating you prefer. Also decide what barrel contour you would like. You will also need to decide what crown you will want, whether it be a Step or a 11 degree. Probably the most important thing to consider is what type of performance you expect out of the gun once it is finished. I hope this helps you in building your barrel and maybe protect you of some of the pitfalls of building on too.

The master gun maker was helping the Bergarra people. I know VERY little about any of these, and that is why I asked and appreciate the help Ghost. I will look these up and PM you if I have any thing I don'e understand Thanks Brian

I really don't know much about them either. They are advertised as a premium barrel and thats all I know.
