I would like to find a few this yr. while coon hunting. Thats when I do all my shroom hunting. I've heard look around swamps, bed down area's and thick cover area's that they pass through. I found one last yr while on the lawn mower at work. It made me want to hunt them! Got any tips!

Me too! Any tips on finding these delicious little morsels would be greatly appreciated. I stumble onto them every now and then but when I go back the next year there aren't any. For some reason I thought they came up in the same places every year. I've also heard that you have to get to them before the critters do. They seem to like them also. Maybe that is why I don't find them in the same place every year. Anybody got any ideas? Rich

We consintrate near the dead elm trees here. That seems to be where most the spores come from. And i find more shrooms in the ditch lines off the gravel roads then in the heavy timber. As a rule they littler greys come out first then the yellows

Rich, Ohio shroom hunting. Blacks come first, greys, spikes, and then the yellow sponge. Blacks i look around shag bark and shell bark hickories, Poplar, old mature cherry trees. an old apple tree is always good also. Greys all the above. Spikes not found around a paticular kind of tree just through out the woods. I have found trhem in briar thickets. Look for openings in the canopy through the woods. Yellow sponge are found around old apple trees, old mature elm trees which are usually in low damp areas with grass, Also in pine groves, and old railroad beds, also briar thickets. I have found shrooms in Ky. Virg. Ind. W. Virg. Mich while turkey hunting, they kinda go hand in hand. Also found morels in ontario while spring bear hunting. They do not come up in the same spot every year , It is always worth checking though you just might not find as many as the year before. It takes moisture, sunshine and warm weather. If the conditions are right i have found them in the snow before. I hope this will help you out. Good luck shroomin G Metz

Riverbirchrun I usually have the best luck around a food source. If you can find where that is in your area thats where most of your deer are going to be concentrated, especially the bucks which are still trying to put there weight back on from the rut. I also have luck near fence lines that they have to jump or go under. They will either fall off from the force of hitting the ground or just by hitting them of of the fence while crossing under. I have found some in bedding areas also, creek bottoms, and also if you have alot of neighbors that like to feed the deer, that would be an ideal place to start. When you are looking don't always just look on the ground look into thick bushes or tress, they often tend to fall off while trying to find food in this places. I have found sets just laying in a thorn bush. You would be surprised!!!!Remember if you find one there is a good chance the other one is close by so look around the area. Another pointer is wear polarized sun glasses it helps. I hope this info. helped you to get started. I'm just starting to see the bucks here in Pa. losing there antlers, so I'm starting to go out this week. Happy shed hunting. Steve
