Well I just got back from the first ASA of the year and I got to tell you I really liked the rule changes. First off most classes now shoot known distance on the second day of competing. This seemed to up the scores and confidence of a lot of archers new to the sport. The only classes that shoot unkown both days are the classes with a 50 yard max. That is Pro classes, Semi Pro and Open A. Other changes are they added a second twelve ring that is on diagnal to the customary 12 ring located at the bottom of the 10 ring, it is on the top of the 10 ring. The first day the lower 12 only counts and then on the second day the upper twelve counts. In addition they also now score the 14 ring which is located in the upper corner of the 8 ring. You eather hit it or your an 8 or five. I like it, alot. It also helps as now the targets are not so chewed up as before. This helps in the scoring as when after two days the rings around the 12 can really get chewed up if your shooting at the same 12 the whole time. It also seemed a lot more fun, hounding the guys about going for the 14. Like I would hit it and then chalenge my the othes to go for it and then they miss and they complain, it really was blast. You can go to their web site asaarchery.com/ to read more on the rules and also get the schedule. The next one is in Hattiesburg, MS on 2-4 March. Shoot Straight Keith

Hey keith, I have alot of tournament buddies that do a pro-am every year (they mostly go to get away from thir wives. I would like to go but I have a couple of questions. Do the pros tend to be withdrawn, or do they like to give advice and help at those tournaments?

Archers are some of the most helpful persons I have ever met. You always have a few, but that is part of the job of being sponsored and that is helping out the fellow archer. 90 percent would bend over backwards for anyone. This is including all classes of shooters. It is a great time. Go and you will enjoy it. Make sure you shoot the team shoot on Friday. Its 25 dollars to enter and gives you feel for the terrain and judging targets. You get pair with three other amatures, and a pro. Groups are usally 5 people total. You discuss the yardage and then each of you shoot. You then score the highest four arrows. It is a blast and a chance for everyone to win something. You also get to converse with one of the pro archers.
