Just wondering how many members we have who video tape their hunts and what kind of equipment they use.
I generally hunt alone, though I wish I had a bud that was as insane about hunting as me. But I use a fairly new Sony mini-dv cam with a shotgun mic attachment and a wide angle lens so I don't have to adjust the cam so much when I'm taking a shot. Thinking about adding a wireless lapel type mic to the setup this year so I can tape somebody else that is further away.
What do you guys use and how successful have you been? Talk about a challenge....try getting a buck to walk within range, video tape it well, AND get your bow to full draw without messing the whole thing up!

I have an old, heavy Sony Handicam. Has a pretty good lens and takes great video but I hate lugging it around. When in a treestand I use a monopod that screws into the tree. It telescopes out and I can move it around.....Works super on a bear bait, just don't leave it in the tree overnight or it'll be gone in the morning. Darn bears

I have a JVC and Sony mini8, I bought the Cam Arm that attaches to a tree and can tape your own hunts. i have a window mount and a ground stake mount.I have even tried video taping on the ground and in the tree at the same time. But that second person ,makes a real big difference.
I know what you mean Huntinfool, I even have forgotten to hit the record button,Or just plan didn't bother trying to get it in postion when a deer has snuck in on me.It's said a whole lot easier than done.

Haven't recorded a hunt yet, but it's always something I have ALWAYS wanted to do! This year I definitely plan on it though .

I have a JVC myself..just gotta figure out how to download the actual MOVIE part (digital tape and card). Got the card figured out...my computer has a slot for it...but I've tried to hook the camera up via a USB cable and downloaded the drivers and it still doesn't recognize any camera..any ideas? I have a GREAT video of last year with two young bucks sparing...

Texasrack, I had to get a PCI slot card. It came along with the Pinnacle Studio AV/DV I purchased. It also has a Fire Wire included and its 1394 connection for faster downloads. Without this software and hardware I could not download the video from my Sony Mini-DV to view it on my PC. I could only watch it on TV or on the cam itself which is great but there is no way to edit anything that way.

I have a Sony Hi8. We have taped a good many hunts, mostly does. However, if you recall the buck my pap killed in my previous post, I got that hunt on tape. Lots of fun... I just want to get a camera now with a firewire adapter so that I can edit the vids on my computer and then burn a DVD. Thats just more money that I don't have though.....

Who here knows how to convert a 8mm tape on a camcorder to a computer? This should be some interesting reading.

Mastering The Outdoors is a web show my partner Tyler Phelps and I started, we are using Canon Gl 2 and a Canon GL 1, these camera are used with Scent Lok videos, we are having special sessions with the new scent lok camera man this august, should be a great time.
We will have two archery bear hunts from the ground, archery fall turkey hunt in MN, Field Goose hunting, archery white tails, metro white tail and possibly two russian boar hunts by bow.
