I was coming back from putting up my stealth cam this morning and was driving up the mountain road when I saw a doe and fawn running up the road ahead of me. The fawn was in the lead. As I was getting closer to them the doe ran off the road and went down the bank but the fawn kept running up the road. As T I got near the fawn it went down over the bank too. I pulled up at the side of the road and looked down the bank and it was standing there looking at me about 30 yards away. Then I started making a maaaa maaaaa sound with my mouth and the fawn started coming up the bank towards me. It got witin 5 feet of my truck door and stopped and was looking at me. I didn't have my camera with me either! That would have made some good pics! Then it went around the front of my truck and started back down the road and then went up the bank on the other side. Then a couple of seconds later the doe went up the bank to join it. ;D I hope I posted this in the right place.

Nice story!
One tiime when I in about 3rd grade, I went trout fishing with my brother in Pa. I was fishing this one little hole when I heard this loud blatting sound. I had no idea what it was. I went back to the car and there was my brother holding this tiny fawn in his arms. We both just looked it over (marveling at the incredibly tiny hooves). Then my brother very quietly said that we had to release it and soon. He carefully placed the fawn on the ground and we just slipped away....we both learned that it is much better to observe wildlife without disturbing it.

Fawns are the cutest little buggers aren't they...Sounds like you got up close and personal with that one...I remember back a few years ago when I managed a hunting club in the Adirondacks I watched a fawn lay down so I went and got my camera and went right to where he laid down...Man I didn't think I was ever going to find that little goomer...After about 10 minutes of searching I finally found him curled up under a fern leaf...I took almost a whole roll of pics of him... ;D

Cool! fawns are always so much fun to look at and watch play. Couple years ago during the first week of bow season i was sitting one afternoon in a hardwood bottom that is fairly open. Well pretty early in the day I had a doe with 2 fawns come in she fed and the fawns played. then they got into a runnin match where they were haulin tail as fast as they could around the bottom. I was having so much fun watching them that i didn't even see the buck that was using the bottom come into range and then go out until he was well out of range. oh well i had a great time watching the fawns. This past sept A friend and I were on the back side of a huge bean field we hunt and were setting a few stands up while we were walking back out of the field we had a fawn jump up at our feet out of the beans maybe 5 feet from us. We froze when we saw him and he just stood there lookin at us with what seemed like a "what the Heck are you guys" look and stood there for about 5 min then jump off into the surrounding woods. Those have to be my 2 favorite fawn encounters i have had.

Excellent story..and I agree..fawns...even when the most die hard hunter looks at one..simply bring us back to the reality that these big bucks and fat does are fragile creatures in their own right.
