About 4 years ago my good Taxidermist friend asked me to make him a base large enough to hold two Gobblers and a small log . I made the base out of hickory , found an old log , shot the gobbler that's in the foreground and took it to him . This is the mount he came up with and it is my favorite I do believe .They seem to be circling the log wanting to fight but are kept apart by this small obstacle . I wish I had room for it at my house but simply don't have . He had me build his shop several years ago and at that time I built a 24x30 trophy room onto it for displaying mounts. I enjoy going there to see what ideas he comes up with next .

Here is another mount I like as well , these two are getting along fine for now as they preen their feathers to look nice for the ladies.

Hey Grizz... by any chance, is the taxidermist that did those two birds a Morris? Quite possibly a Morris that I spoke with one day from Missouri?
If so, he's a great gentlemen to speak with and surely loves his craft... and does some great work to boot!

Yes Gobfather you're right, he is the one you spoke to about a year ago . I was wanting you guys to get together and get him on your site .He told me then he was interested but had to find some spare time to get set up with you . He is doing around 900 turkey a year , so he still hasn't found that spare time --I'll drive over this morning and shake him up a little bit , it is too darn cold here to do anything else !

Are the heads the fake ones or the freeze dried real ones? Nice mounts!!!!

xtremespotsmen , they are freeze dried heads . They do all the heads in their shop . The real turkey heads are skinned ,soaked in preparation to keep them bug free , the skin is then placed over a foam form they cast in the shop , pinned in place ,frozen in a deep freezer for several hours then quickly loaded into large freeze driers. When dry they are hand painted with an air brush . I went to his shop today and they were preparing to load 140 heads in one of their driers . I've learned a lot when visiting his shop drinking their coffee and one of those is the fact that it is hard to take good pictures of turkeys indoors . Their bodies are so black I get too much flash on the heads or if the heads look good their bodies/feathers don't show well so my pictures don't do them justice.

Thanks for the info Grizz. I hope to mount a turkey this year. I like the pufed up strutting mounts myself... I alos have seen some with the plastic heads and didn't like them too much, they sort of look real fake. maybe for a flying mount where you won't be right on top of it but I want a floor mount on a pedestal for the corner of my room, it will get up and close attention...
