I'm not a taxidermist, but i have one mounted in velvet, they'll inject a pre servant into the velvet,believe there are different types they can use. some are actually hazardous.contact a local taxidermist, and he can help. heres mine & another pic of one last year that just started shedding the first of nov, really late.

I have a couple muleys mounted in velvet. My taxidermist had the velvet covered antlers, with the shill plate and everything attached freeze dried before puting the mount together. Both are about 10 years old and still look great.

If they are in the early stages and still soft they can be in injected. If it is dried the solution can be brushed on several times or soaked. Or they can be freeze dried.
