I had some fish at a shop up nort that have been done for a while, i planned on going up there and getting them but ....it was cheaper to have them mailed down. the crappie goes 15" the smallie and seed are my step father's Christmas gift, he hasn't a clue he's getting this, my mother and i managed to keep it from him. the day we caught them, we kept a few other smallies for a meal and i never told him i froze the big one. it's only 18" but it's his biggest bass ever. he don't fish much, only when they come to visit me or on a family vacation to a resort. the seed is 9", truly a big seed (think some folks call them pumpkin seeds or yellow sunfish, we also have bluegill and green sunfish up here.) any way, this dermist is very talented, won a few awards etc, I will keep going back. another crappie from an earlier taxidermist, not quiet the same quality, but still a good job, i don't like the fin placement as much, looks too forced, and the colors are a bit blah. and the mouth bes forced again, the one thing the first guy did was the eye, it has a realistic feel to it to me, at least when compared to this pix,

Very nice mounts! The colors look very natural...not overdone. With the pelvic fins folded back like that and the relaxed look to the other fins and mouth, the crappie looks like you just caught him and laid him on the carpet!!!! The smallie and sunfish should be a cool surprise for your stepdad....And I thought I was the only person around who gives gifts of mounted animals

Cheeze- There is NOTHING wrong with giving mounts as gifts! I didn't mean it to sound bad....It's a joke among the non-hunting members of my family. My sisters-in-law would get real nervous about gift exchange if they thought I drew their name. I guess they were afraid they might get a box of shotgun shells or a stuffed coyote or something. The brothers-in-law were always happy to have me draw their name....they figured they'd get a pheasant or deer mount.

I'd be happy yeah cheeze Gram's did those for me, they been done for a while, i didn;t want to have them shipped , afraid of damage to my stepfathers gift, but the price of gas was more than the shipping charge, so i took a chance, it all worked out. I wanted to kill two birds with one stone and get by your shop too, I'll get up there yet, anyway, I think Ron (Gram's ) is one of the best dead animal stuffers around that area, i know there's others that are good, but man everything this guy does is quality, i have never seen any bad yet, you should go and check out the Turkey mount he did, its a tom feeding on acorns, I'd swear the thing was alive. If, no .... when i get a walleye over thirty, I'm having Ron do it. ...unless huntress draws my name for Christmas suppose I'd have to work my way into the family somehow, I don't think there's much hope for that, D might have something to say about it! and i wouldn't wish any of my siblings on any one!!

I stand with T_Bone.....those are cool. What is a standard fish taxidermy fee for those types of mounts Phishy? Huntress? I have a lot of mammals mounted but no fish (yet). Thanks. -Sloppy

What is a standard fish taxidermy fee for those types of mounts Phishy? Huntress? My fee for warm water, skin mounts is $10.50/inch. Driftwood with habitat or a wall panel is extra. I'm sure you'll find lower prices if you can find a taxidermist who specializes in fish. Shop around and look at a bunch of different fish mounts before you decide where to go. If you look back through some of the taxidermy threads here (in one of them...I can't remember which one) I explained what to look for in a good fish mount....if you can't find it just let me know.
