What would be the best place to start learning taxidermy. I have finally decided to learn it as a full time hobby. Thanks for any info, Deerchef

Join your state taxidermy association. I'm sure they have workshops and competitions for you to attend. It's a great place to meet others in the field and exchange ideas. www.nctaonline.com/This link has everything you need to choose a school or workshop. www.taxidermy.net/learn/learn1.htmlI would suggest choosing one segment of taxidermy to learn first and get good at that before moving on. Decide what interests you the most...birds, fish, game heads, lifesize, etc. and keep practicing on that one before trying the others. and keep us posted on how you're doing. If you have any questions after you get going, feel free to ask. Lets see some pics when you get your first mount done.

See if you can help out a taxidermist in your area as well. Just the grunt work like fleshing and stuff. If you get the right one, you will learn SO much! I know a mail course got me started when I was little but it took a long time for my mounts to lose that "road kill" look! Don

I am also starting out and I purchased Breakthrough Magazine and many DVD sets. I also beleive that you should work on your favorite portion first and then expand from there. Also make sure you have a practicle budget in place and a time line set up. Good luck and enjoy bring the outdoors indoors.
