I gave my processor the rack and cape of a nice 10pt I shot last year. The guy who does his taxidermy does a great job on the mounts but he has the reputation of poor costumer service. He doesn't return calls and he doesn't like to be budged about when it will be done. I left instructions on the form I filled out for him to call me so we could discuss the pose I wanted. Now it is a year later with no call and I am worried about him calling me and telling me it is finished. What should I do if this happens? I refuse to pay for something I don't want.

I feel bad for you but what were you thinking? ? Why did you give up your rack and cape knowing this guy had a bad reputation?? Did you pay a deposit? To the processor or the taxidermist? Is the processor an agent of the taxidermist or was he doing you a favor by dropping off your rack? If the processor is a paid agent I would start there. Talk to him and see if he ever delivered the rack/cape or if it's still in the freezer. If it is at the taxidermist then start calling him...who cares if he doesn't like to be bugged, too bad. If he's running a legal business then he should act accordingly. Call him up, go to his shop or whatever it takes to find out...you have a right to know what's going on. If he won't return your calls contact your state taxidermy association. They may be able to help you. What state are you from? In some states the DNR is in charge of taxidermy licences...contact them or the Better Business Bureau. No reputable taxidermist would start a mount without first talking to their client. If he mounts the deer before getting your instructions and you're not happy with it (and he won't make it right) then about the only thing left for you to do is to take him to small claims court. This guy sounds like one of the 'bad apples' in this business. Your avatar pic is a very nice looking mount....next time, maybe you should go back to whoever did that mount. Keep us posted on what happens...hopefully everything will work out fine. If you need help contacting your state taxidermy association, let me know.

Fluke, I have a great taxidermist down here and he does the best work and has won multiple awards. He just doesnt like me,but he still does great work. Kevin my buddy can take stuff to him and they will walk for hours, and he gets a good deal..its funnt because I set these to up also sent him alot of work from hoghunters over the years, he just doesnt like me. His sons who work with him go hunting with me and have called inviting me out with them..but the dad just dont like me. what i was trying to say generally he has my deer for about 1 year,, this year he had to rush it for the state, this is the second deer he has had to rush out for the Texas big game awards,,anyway, I hope it works out for you
