With the big fish contest going on what about some talk from you girls on what to do with that big fish if you want to get it mounted. Also show us a few pictures of the fish that you have mounted.I think it would be a whole lot easer for us to send one of you frozen fish than say a turkey. Also talk about other ways to get a copay of your catch you plan on releasing.Like an exact copy of their fish that they have released. Thanks

Sorry I did not see the other post you started.I just like the idea of the repo idea. But I have a different reason than you and I have listed. When I catch a big fish and I would like to eat him stream side and get a mount too. This would be impossable with a skin mount. But all I do is measure the fishes length, girth, weight and take a picture. Then eat the fish steam side. When I return home I call whom ever will do a repo fish mount and send him or her the measurements and the picture. And he or she can mount me a almost exact repoduction of my big fish. Do not worry catch and release fisherman I hardly ever catch too many big fish.I only keep a few to eat most of the time.

Yep take lots of pictures of the fish... Follow the dirsections I gave you in the " REPRODUCTION FISH INFO POST" and you should be just fine. Print off a copy of the INFO Post an put it in your tackle box in a zip lock baggie.. That way you have it with you....

If you want to have a skin mount done of your fish take a lot of pics too. Some species have different color variations depending on where they are caught. I've seen some small mouth bass caught in northern Wisconsin that look almost black (bronze backs) and some from the southern part of the state that were light tan/greenish color. Try to take pics as soon as the fish comes out of the water as they lose color quickly.
Dispatch large fish ASAP--live fish thrashing around in a livewell or on a stringer can do a lot of damage to the scales. If you can't freeze right away, they can be kept on ice for a few hours.
For long term storage wrap in a clean, WET towel. Be sure it's an old one or white so no color bleeds on to your fish. By wetting the towel you're keeping moisture in to avoid scales drying out and curling. Place in a plastic bag (The shrink wrap food storage systems are a great way to avoid freezer burn on fish, birds, small mammals, deer capes etc.) Freeze--trying to keep the fish flat. Folding a heavy piece of cardboard over the tail can help protect it from breakage.
Try to store all your frozen trophies in a regular freezer--not frost free, and be very careful when moving frozen fish as the tails and fins can break easily.
Freezing this way should give you a month or two to find a taxidermist that suits your needs.
