We live at the end of a quiet street. At the other end we have to drive down a family moved in and they has a little boy ( they live on the corner)They put up a basketball rack that faces the street where the kids play.... we drive slow when makin the turn knowin the kids will be out there.... Well I came home last nite & they had cones across the road so no~one could drive down the road~~ I stop & ask the mother to move the cones so I could drive down ( ask real nice~ nothin out of the way ) she told me the kids are playin to go around .. So I drove around the cones & she's out there screamin like I did something wrong~~ I stopped and ask her what was wrong.... Well she went off.... Real nice I told her I will go home & call the Cops to see if they can block off the road.....I didn't call.. but people like that just don't want to watch there kids... I feel sorry for the kids ,,, but why don't they move the Basketball Rack in there yard....

There may be a city ordinance.
I use to drive the city streets every day and basketball goals are everywhere here in Kentucky. While drivin' down a cul-de-sac an irate mother yells at me to slow down. My reply,"any speed is unsafe when your kids are un-supervised!" She came un-glued.
I did call the city zoning commission but that street was in an un-incorporated area.

Pretty darn inconsiderate of folks to that in your neighborhood. I sure hope you can get this issue resolved peaceably.-KT

Hey Yank, I work for a road construction co. and do alot of work for VDOT(VA.DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION) and it sometimes takes days for us to get the approval to restrict traffic just to do our jobs. To think that some irresponsible mom that's too sorry to properly supervise her kids thinks she can just cone off the roadway at will, is way over the line. Check with the proper officials and they'll put a stop to it. In the meantime if those cones happen to cause wreck, it's her butt in a sling. Restricting traffic is no joke and you have to get approval to do so.

Car's drivin up & down the road & her kids can't play Well he told her to take the kids to a play ground & let them play in your yard.... NO~MORE~ROAD~BLOCKS

Hmmmm? Just a new guy here, and yet to figure out where this site comes from?? BUT-- NO ONE is going to keep me from driving to my home. Kids in the street? Noooooo- You cannot deny someone access to their home. At least not in VA. Crazy.

two stories... one is from norfolk VA when i lived there .... guy was having a birthday party for his kids and we all had the bikes out that day ..... its not like you cant hear 8 harleys coming from blocks away ... you could see the guy rushing his kids into the yard from about 2 blocks away when he heard us... and then yelled at us cause we was being to loud... well if it wasnt for the loud pipes he might not a known to get his kids out of the middle of the street and into the yard where they should be
number two ... in the state of west virginia while walking to the store in the dead of winter.... found two kids out back of there house... rather in the alley way and not the yard... one was not even 2 years old yet in a foot of snow freezing cold playing in nothing but a diaper.... and the older one in pajama pants a t shirt and just socks.... i picked the youngest up and walked into the house with the wide open front door ... mom was sleeping on the couch .....
now dont get me wrong everyone has there own way of parenting... but some parents need a simple ass woopin to teach them the right way

4pointer,I say the Mom was way out of line and I'd question her IQ but at least you've came up with an answer I've been looking for. Two universities in my town, one liberal arts/business and one is for medical doctors. If you drive through the student doctors campus, they will stop walking at the edge of the street, look for traffic and wait until it's safe to cross. At the business/arts campus they have marked crossings that are seldom used, they never look up or stop walking, just step out in the street, cell phone to their ear talking a mile a minute and wonder why several get hit by cars each year! They must have grown up playing in the street !

People think they own the street and the road nowdays. The road i live on is in the country with kids on bikes AND TEENS IN CARS at times it aint SAFE to be on the ROAD. Cars have gone through my fence MANY times cause the think they are race car drivers. Scares me for the ones on Bikes.

Prime example guys, spend the day with your kids in the woods hunting or on the water fishing, they will be to tired to play in the street. Play in the street at an early age unsupervised, they will run the street when they get older.
