These are some of the whiners I wish had never been invited along on the trip...........
Fishing camp-
Oldest guy in the group. Complaints: Weather, fish weren’t biting, didn’t like the lake, boat, accommodations, or food. Observations: Maybe if this guy would have gotten up before noon he would have caught a fish–If he had cooked ONCE during the week maybe the food would have been better. By the middle of the week I was ready to drive him to Thunder Bay and put him on a bus.
Moose camp-
When I booked this trip I thought this guy had the age, maturity, and experience to handle it. WRONG! Complaints: This guy basically whined from daylight till dark. His biggest gripe was with one of the guides—funny thing was, it wasn’t even his guide! Observations: This guy felt that because he paid good money for this hunt the guide should have had the moose tied up for him or something. He was the only one in camp who didn’t pitch in to help cook, do dishes, tidy the campsite or anything. During the trip he got lost, drunk, and by the middle of the week I was hoping he WOULD get close to a moose—so the moose could stomp him.
Caribou camp-
Two oldest guys in the group. You never saw one without the other. Complaints: Everything from the food and accommodations to the lack of game. They also complained that the camp owner over charged them. (They paid the same as everyone else.) Observations: By the end of the first week everyone in camp was calling them the “Grumpy Old Men”. This hunt was fully guided, with a cook so there was not a lot of work to do in camp but these guys just didn’t appreciate anything the guides did for them. When the guide did put them close to caribou they missed their shots!!! (Guides were then ready to put them on the first plane home!)
I know that sometimes things can go wrong in camp or you can get a lazy guide, but these guys complained about things that were out of everyone’s control, like the weather and lack of game. Maybe I’m just more laid back than that, but if you’re not going to TRY to have a good time then why go?
