I use a Thompson Contender and Encore for my deer hunting in 44, 30-30, 35Rem, and 30.06. I have taken whitetail deer, bobcat, and coyote. Most of my barrels are 10" & 14". Looking forward to dropping a few deer over the next few weeks.

I have used several different Ruger .44's. They are a lot of fun if your into wheel guns. The last few years I've hunted with a TC Encore in .308. That pistol will reach out and touch 'em. I shot the biggest buck of my life with that pistol. It is usually what I have when I'm in the deer woods now day's.

I just got a TC 7mm pistol. It is 15" long total. I am going Sat. morning for the first time. My brother passed away in Jan. and left it to me. I only have 5 bullets left, and do not reload. He was using 243, necked up wild cat loads. from what they tell me. I had to evacuate New Orleans and could not fit the reloading equipment in the truck or van, so I will have to wait till nest year. I guess I better shoot real accurate!!! But, it will only take one shot!

Perhaps you could get a gun shop to load you up some ammo for a reasonable price if the ammo is not available commercially.
