The ducks in my area are starting to thin out. I believe it's because they have about eaten all the food up, and because the amount of hunting pressure has tripled since season started. Even at the current level of ducks though, we're having an AWESOME year. So far, almost every hunter I've taken out, on every trip (17 hunts so far), has bagged a limit in a morning hunt. The three guys (one on one trip, and two on another), that did not bag out, really should have. I called shots for the one guy 22 times. About half were back flapping to land in the dekes, most of the rest were under 30 yards, and none were over 40 yards. The other two guys ran out of shells, each being one bird short.
How are your birds holding up? Where are you?
I'm in south Texas.

We've got tons of birds in central Ohio right now but they're all being pretty wary & a lot of them are holding up in fields within the city limits where we can't hunt them. We've been doing good on Canadian geese but not so good on ducks. I'm a real rookie when it come to calling & especially on ducks so I like it when I can get a buddy or to to go along that are better callers. I've been adding to my decoy collection and I'm starting to get up there. I've got: 18 goose shells 6 goose inflatable silhouettes 5 goose floaters 6 goose full bodies w/flocked heads 4 dozen mallard floaters 6 mallard magnum field shell/floaters 1 dozen pintail floaters 1 Robo Duck I'm getting up to the point that I get more calls to go along with some of the guys that have a lot more goose decoys because I can add some to their spreads.

I went duck hunting for the first time about 2 months ago.....I was hooked right away!
Just starting my collection of "Stuff" though. We have had Decoys for training the Versatile dogs here but now getting in to all the other things!
Our ducks are not as good here lately....But everything is on fire, and the wheat fields are alomost all dried out. It' s been pretty slow in the duck blind but the non migratory Geese are still hanging around. We had two blues and two snows come in this weekend.

I usually hunt for ducks from opening till the end,, but usually we have water in the lake. Its so low that of all the marinas here on the lake only one is working and its way off from my side of the lake.I can wade a bit through some horrible mud and slop and try standing against some timber but dog gone,,I am just to fat and tired
