Now that Goose season is in full swing, I am breaking out the short reed. My success has been marked by 4 years of success with a Hunter G's 007 Acrylic Smokey Joe short reed goose call and a Poly Carb Super Mag "Black Magic" goose call. Both calls are produced by the Goose Guru himself at Tim Grounds Championship Calls. Check them out and look and Hunter and Tim's calling contest histories in the "About Hunter Grounds" and "About Tim Grounds" areas. These guys are the best. www.timgrounds.com/gcallhunter007.htmwww.timgrounds.com/gcallpolycarbs.htmWhat short reed goose call do you prefer? -Sloppy

Hey Biggess Footess....don't count Tim Grounds out on the "economical" choices either!!! For example, Try some of the following: The $25 "Clearly The Goose Talk" call The $35 "Guides Best" flute call The $55 "Half Breed" short reed call The $60 "ABS Super Mag Burnt Orange" short reed call Now you can afford any of those even if I have to Sloppy subsidize you! Seriously though, Tim's "plastic" calls kick the butt out of most other custom calls I have used (long list). And at $35, the "Guides Best" flute is just awesome. I blew that call with large success during my 4 years of high school! The point is this. While I do not work for any callmaker for any specie of critter, it is better to have a couple "good" calls (like Grounds) than it is to keep trying the ever-increasing cost associated with the trial and error method. Same reason I support Nitro Company and Rhino chokes for turkey hunting. More expensive in the short term but far cheaper in the long run. Never heard of Blue Collar Calls though. I can't say "Yea!" or "Nay!" for those because I just don't know. But I will say this, I would put the the $55 Tim Grounds "Half Breed" up against any short reed available today. Just my 2 cents though. - :)Sloppy

i love grounds calls, BG canada hammer, winglocks, and also a SMH, but thats about where i cut it off. i have a delrin winglock and one of my custom shortreeds on my lanyard right now, and one of my wood SR's and a maple winglock in the blind bag.........and for the $, a wood or delrin winglock is better than any other call..... (ya, i know i make calls, but i really like winglocks....)

I think any call will work as long as you know how to use it...I use a Buck Gardner Canada Hammer, a Mick Lacy short reed, Strutn J's SR and of course our very own Goosereaper's short reed ...You don't have to spend a fortune on goose calls to be successful or rely on one brand or custom maker...It's all in how you comunicate with the critters thats important...somedays they want to hear a high pitched call and others they want a lower toned call...I'll start out using one call on a flock and if they don't respond I switch to another call...So far this year goosereapers call is what they want to hear since it's a little higher pitched then the other calls

TPH - I, like many others, have my favorites. Grounds is not the only goose call maker that is any good! He's just happens to be one of the best. While I truely believe that I can call in a mallard or Canadian goose with a mouthpiece from my sister's clarinet, it doesn't mean I want to use one. The cool thing about BG, Grounds, and Foiles (and others) is that the pitch itself can be varied substantially with one's aperature and amount of moving air. Either way, they sound very goose and geese. I just like TG's calls and don't use much else. -Sloppy

(please dont take as a spam) I have never realy used a big name call out in the field. I did blow a Foiles, If I didnt make my own I would realy check into Tim's or Jeff's
