Dead Duck(s)

Heard on the news this morning that in one of our area's wetlands, one thousand ducks died of botulism. Seems they ate the maggots of some dead animals and got deseased or something like that. Bummer.

Wow, that's depressing...

Now on the other hand, I did my good deed for the year earlier this spring & rescued 1 dozen baby mallards out of the storm drain out in the street by our plant. One of the guys was coming back from lunch & a hen was wondering around in the street going nuts. He came in and told me so I went outside to see what was up. I saw the hen & could hear all the ducklings down in the drain chirping their fool heads off. They were going back & forth in the drain system from one side of the street to the other where there was 2 different sewer lids. We were able to get one of the lids off & eventually caught all the ducklings & released them back to momma. She was going nuts on us until we caught & released the 1st couple of ducklings & then she realized we were helping her out... if she only knew I was just doing it so I could whack-em & stack-em later on...

That's about exactly how it went other than all the fake quaking we were doing trying to get those "little green headed $#@^%" to come to the sewer lids on either side of the street so we could net them out... I didn't think we were ever going to get all 12 of them....
