Wildbill and myself saw one of the most awesome things I've ever seen. We started the morning with another friend duck huntin, well they just weren't flyin that day so we started huntin snows ,after about an hour long drive following flocks we found out they were on a refuge area . kind of dissapointing to have followed that far just to find em on the refuge . well we left there to go pick up some of wildbills goose dekes that a friend had. While talking to him he gave us directions to places where geese have been killed all week.Well we headed that way and from about 3 miles could see the geese swirling for their descent . We stopped at the farmhouse and got permission to hunt the geese ,in her words they made a terrible noise that kept her up all night. We got parked and got ready and started the 1/2 mile hike back to the corner of the feild where they we resting. About 1/2 way back an Bald Eagle went over the top of them and off they went. Well we mad ethe rest of the treck and headed off across the flooded rice field and got in the ditch on the other side of the field and wildbill started calling any ducks or geese that flew over and pretty soon we had a couple ducks in the water and then a few minutes later a speckle belly landed on the water and then it was over for a solid hour and a half we had geese coming in from every direction. We had to make a move to get into a little better position.as shooting hours were getting close to being over , we slunk down into the ditch and waded about 75 yards closer to the flock when we peeked up over the edge there had to be at least a 100 thousand birds in front of us ,the closest being about 10 yards and the furtherest being 150 yards or better . We got ready and right before we crest the hill they came off the water in a mass of white ,black , and brown . That was one of the most memorable things I've ever seen in my life. Oh yeah we killed 7 birds between the two of us so it ended up being probably the most memorable hunts in my life. I've just never seen that many birs that close at one time. Unfortunately we didn’t have a camcorder to capture it all on.
