Sloppy just want to express his continued emptiness and feelings of loss after an accident that required my new Chessie bitch Cocoa Calypso to be euthanized. Cocoa had a bad habit of chasing our cars up and down our driveway. Last week, my wife loaded the kids up in our Ford E150 van and headed down the driveway before I could get Cocoa penned up. She ran to the van from the passenger's side (blind side) and was hit by the bumper and run over by both the front and rear wheel before the van could be brought to a halt. I picked Cocoa up while in shock, pain, and biting and rushed her to the vet hospital. Hip broken in 4 places, torn cartilage, compound fracture requiring 2 rods and pins in the femur bone. Estimated cost of $3,800 for surgery (out of Sloop's ability to pay for that). A $44 barbiturate overdose and a box of Kleenex ended our relationship and Cocoa's pain. Not happy at all but I sure am glad she is not suffering anymore. Sloppy???.....I love her and will get through the mourning but I also know it never gets any easier to bury a friend. I am crying so I will end here.... Broken-Hearted Sloppy

I am truly sorry for your loss, a pet is more than just a pet, it is a family member.

SS... Tears have rolled up in my eyes reading this and I really feel for you my friend. It is a very sad day when something like this happens. I know how you feel. I had to hear the news that my beagle of many years passed away a couple of months ago. It was very hard to hear and to be honest I don't think that I have even accepted it yet. She was my best friend both in the woods and out and brought many years of fun and companionship. My heart goes out to you and your family over this loss.

Scott, While I was reading this, one of my "girls" is laying at my feet (she always likes being close to you). Tears welled up so bad I had to stop and wipe my eyes. I am sincerely deeply sorry for your and your family's loss. Hang in there bud.

It sometimes is hard to let go of the "I'm a man.....I can take this....I won't cry....it doesn't hurt...." thoughts and attitude. Problem is that I do cry and it does hurt....dearly. I appreciate everyone's responses, sympathy, and caring. I think I'm just going to try to avoid this post for a couple days. I just get too choked up and sad.....so don't think I'm ignoring anyone....just mourning in my own way. Thanks to everyone and to my life captain, God the Almighty. Super Sad Sloppy

I understand what you are going through. I have been there before as I am sure most have.
I offer to you what was given to me when I was in your place. Read it and enjoy. My prayers are with you.
THE RAINBOW BRIDGE
"Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill or old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent;his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling to each other in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together........"

Slopster, I had to shoot a hog dog recently do to his dog aggressive behavior! Even though he trangressed to the point of a death sentence I t still tore me and the wife up as we raised him from 12 weeks old! To lose one that is due to accident or old age is something i do not look forward to! These hogdogs can get killed or need euthanized at the blink of an eye! We try to stay distant in our emotional connection to limit the pain we feel when they are dying or dead. But you know like I do that we do grow attached even to them! My condolences and feel free to discuss your feelings with likeminded doggers as we all need a shoulder now and then! If you ever want to pop a top and talk on the phone about your dogs, let me know... we will drink one together and shoot the breeze! ol' SOFTY Brent
