No, I don't mean a video game on the X-Box. But how many of you deer hunters (the ones on stand 4, 5, 6+ hours) start getting so bored your mind wanders, and if anyone could read your thought, they'd put you in a padded room? I usually go through the whole gambit of thought: 1). Today is the day I whack something big. 2). Any second, the woods could explode with action. 3). Geez, is there any deer in these woods? 4) Why am I even out here, what a waste of time. 5). Should I change locations? What's wrong with this setup? 6) Man, I just know this is a great location. 7). This set-up bites. 8). Any second now, the woods could explode with action. 9). Today is the day I'm gonna whack something big. And so on and so on. Then the silly thought for me start to come after 4 or so hours. I start making up words to "deer" songs. At the threat of being put away myself, I'll share one with ya. For anyone old enough (or anyone who listens to "older" music), there is a song by the Hollies "No Milk Today". Well, my version goes "No deer today, I think they ran away. Into the woods they run, I shoot them with a gun". So, gentlepeople, what I am really wanting to know, is who out there goes through the same kind of silly thoughts as I do? Fess up, don't leave me hangin'. This doesn't apply to the ones who stumble out to the stand a half hour before dark and "hit 'er hard".

When is it the toughest.. For me thats either when its getting light and you swear the stump in fornt of you wasnt just there ,or the bush is moving,, I have tried the praying thing, I have also tried not to be selfish and pray for others. Thinking my blessings to other people would bring me luck. Again, the best thing for my patience is a romance novel, or a good book. It makes me sit still and keeps my mind from thinking what am i doing wrong.I also play games on my cell phone with the sound off this also helps,I even have deer hunter on my phone . What always helps though is seeing something move, the time really flies when you have a few deer under you. Unless you are trying to move. Tim

, i can't say i ever fell asleep in my tree stand, I have taken a snooze in a ground blind. I hunted with my cousin a couple years back, we hunted hard, dark to dark for three days, the fourth evening about an hour before sunset, i was so tired that every sudden sound sent a shock through my body. I had a buck come in i drew back and completely blew the shot, i had no concentration left in me, i don't even recall aiming as far as games i play, i like to try and visualize myself as the center of the universe, (that's not surprising, eh?) and ascend up into an aerial view, observing the entire area and pinpoint where each sound is coming from i thought one time i wished some deer in. I was looking at a trail direwctly to the north of me, i stared at it, said to myself " a deer will appear........right now!", i no more than thought the thought, and a deer materialized on the trail

I guess my mind is just an inactive wasteland. i will read or play pocket dueces poker while scanning the woods. I feel strongly on my set-ups and stay put almost always. I have learned very hard lessons about 2nd guessing and the missed opportunities because of it. i do not know why, but I am having a very difficult time falling asleep in the stand this year. One of my simple guilty pleasures in life is napping in the woods and I havn;t gotten one wink in this year. i only take about 4 naps a year and 3 of them usually come during deer season! i really cannot afford to get behind on my beauty sleep!

i thought one time i wished some deer in. I was looking at a trail direwctly to the north of me, i stared at it, said to myself " a deer will appear........right now!", i no more than thought the thought, and a deer materialized on the trail I must be wishing wrong because I OFTEN picture that big buck and it doesn't work. Then they show up and surprise the h*** out of me! Tonight I'm going to picture something totally inappropriate coming up the trail and see what happens...

Hey Fishy...Universe and Aerial view..Dude you crack me up. Maybe you shouldn't stand so close to the camp fire smoke at night..think it might be having an effect on ya! LOL
For me...I stay pumped most of the time...EARLY while it's still dark it is tough to, I'll admit..that is when I will lay my head back and lightly doze off and on..but always looking between head nods. Once there is enough light to see..I'm on alert the entire time. Even on those LONG morning to evening days..I don't find myself nodding off too often...sometimes, but rarely. I will put a dip of copenhagen in when I feel that "sweepy" feeling coming over...
Something about being out there with nature....
