and turkeys today. Wanted to go to a spot I found last year but the road was closed. So I went to my favorite clearcut and put up my stealth cam and found this on the way: Then I walked over to the deer trail to put the stealth cam up and found this at the edge of the trail: As I was walking back out I took these pics of the clearcut: Here's a pic of the available food sources:

Looks like some super nice public land to me! Is there much early season bow hunting pressure and/or small game hunters that are stirring it up? If so, it may be interesting to figure out what escape funnels the deer are using when the small game hunters come marching in and make sure you get out into one of those funnels before day break! those were nice looking rubs!

Very nice rubs! And MRJ is right on about the escape funnels. I have also had petty good sucess with just getting back into the cover a long ways and finding the nastiest hard to get to spot! That is hwere the big boys will run!

Actually Mrj I never hunted for deer here. But I do hunt this area in the spring for gobblers. This is a good nesting site.I didn't know this trail was there until last winter. I came up here when there was snow on the ground and found the trail and lots of rubs. I know not many people hunt this for archery season. I quit bowhunting a couple of years ago, but am seriously thinking about starting again.

what are you doing!! keep the public land thing a secret, nobody in their right mind would hunt public land, there's no deer there Actually it's about i can hunt and i keep trying to improve myself on these types of property. i would dare to say that the person that learns to hunt public property and be successful consistently might be the more "in-tuned" hunter when it comes to noticing subtle things, like slight terrain features, or the not so worn path, compared to the the consistently successful private land owner, just my bias, i like to think of myself greater than i really am Just don't ask me how many deer i have shot in the recent past
