Well I got out both this morning and this evening. I just moved to a new town and a coworker gave me permission to hunt on his farm. Also one of his neighbors gave me permission today to hunt on his property.
I only saw one deer and it was about 600 yards away on the opposite side of the field that I was hunting. It doesn't bother me not to see deer. I really enjoyed just getting out and sitting out in the woods again. Once I figure out the layout of the land and the feeding and bedding areas I'm confident my success with go up.

Well I had a good day I guess . I got ran up a tree this morning from hogs. They stayed around till just light enough to see. I saw doe and fawns this morning at 10 yards but cant shoot does. I went back out at 4:30 and had deer move in about 6:00. I saw 3 sets of does and fwns and a 4 point buck and a spike right before dark I got out before the hogs came in. Tim

Went out Sat. AM (see the turkey section for the story on that messed up affair) Went out Sunday for an evening hunt. Very warm about 84 degrees when we left the truck. Walked into my stand and droppe doff my bow so I could take my buddy up to the tree where I wanted him to sit. Saw a very fresh rub on the tree about 15 yards from my stand. It was not here last weekend. Told Mike to nock an arrow and i would carry his stand. We got about 60 yards up the hill from the rub when a doe busted out n front of us and ran up the hill, pretty cool. I look to the right to check the hillside for more deer and there, about 40 yards away is a VERY nice buck. Looking right at us with a rather puzzled look on his face. HMMMMMM. @#$@#$@ Got Mikes attention, he was about 10 feet in front of me, he backed down the hill saw the deer, I told him about 40 yards. He drew, took aim and let her rip. The arrow just caught him across the brisket! i actually saw hair fall of the bottom of the buck chest as he turned to run. MISSED LOW!!!! Neatest thing though, Mike has always put me in good spots and really taken care of me over the years. It really felt good to get help him get a chance at a nice deer for a change. I am really owund up about having a Buck hanging out in what I have considered to be a "Doe spot" for a few years now!

Saturday morning i was in stand at 5:15 am.Starts getting light at about 6:15am or so.The smell of wet leaves and a cool breeze blown in my face and the millions of stars twinkling in the early morning hours.Had my heart pumping already. And playing a scene over and over in my head anticipating a big ole buck come strolling down the creek bed.wasn't till about 8:40 i heard footsteps in the leaves. But could not spot what made them.I figured it was a squirrel.Several minutes later i look back behind me down the creek bed.And i spotted a doe about 20 yds away, just a yearling. All i could make out at first was it's neck and head from behind three trees.I watch it get a drink then walk back up the hill on the other side of the property line.Thats all i seen opener day.But it was so good to get back to deer hunting. The first week is what i use to work out the bugs and tweak the set up and skills before the rut .
