Sorry for keeping you hanging... Been out searching hard. No deer. There was a heck of a blood trail with all deep red liver blood. We followed the blood triail easly through the cattails both sides of the trail were painted red. We apparently spooked the buck from the bed when we snuck out thursday evening. He went straight west across an ocean of cattails. If he would of stayed in the cattails we would have found him no problem, but he got into an open hardwoods and we lost blood within 20 yards of the cattails. The blood was very hard to see on leaves because it was dried and so dark red. He is lying there somewhere dead.... Now all we can do is wait, and smell it down. Been searching almost every night hoping just to be able to recover the rack at this point. I went over the tape and found a spot where you can clearly see the right beam. There are at least five tines on that side and its heavy beamed.... Looks like its probably a ten pointer with short heavy tines.

Sorry to hear that, we've all been there, it sucks. Keep looking for crows and vultures, maybe you'll get the rack.

Hope you at least find the rack! I know how special that first rack is. I still have mine a little basket racked 5 pointer I killed when I was 12.

You still may run across that buck again.I hit one in the neck trying to slip the arrow in front of the front shoulder.Buried the arrow deep.I i would had sworn the buck got off to somewhere and died. But we couldn't find it after a week of searching. The second week i rattled some and that bugger showed up and i got him this time.At least 12 inches of shaft was buried in his neck. And i couldn't pull the broardhead out,it was wedged in the neck bone.Only got the broadhead back after cooking the neck roast. So they are very tough and adaptive creatures. He obviously bedded down long enough to stop the bleeding. He just might have made it.

i feel for ya,
my cousin hit a doe couple years back, put it through the guts, we let her lay and picked up the trail, found where she bedded down and then got up and sauntered off, leaving very little blood, we searched and searched, did the circle thing - everything. well long story short, we never found her, i went back the next weekend and the crows gave her away, we were only a few yards away from her at on point, she layed down in some thick prickly ash and we walked right by, never seeing her. the scavengers dined well, more deer go to feed crows when hit by a car, it is not something that we like dealing with but it is a reality, I just hope ratslayer doesn't become shot shy and pass on good shots when they do occur.
