So what is everyone's plans for this weekend? Saturday night I will be down at Elko, have to take the docks out in the morning. Here are my options:
Option 1: Hunt over a soybean field, any wind will work but one direction that may cause problems is one blowing to the northeast. Prefer wind to blow north or west. So far it's still green, and they are still using it.
Option 2: Hunt over a corner of a standing cornfield, again any wind will work but one blowing south east will be the one I care for least. Most of the tracks are walking east from the cornfield, lots of tracks with a couple big ones.
Option 3: Hunt the crossing between the cornfield and soybean field, to the field edge of either field is 21 yards, trails at 14, 28 yards. In a ground blind on a finger of woods sticking out. Lots of tracks, but mostly small ones Wind is not a concern.
Option 4: Hunt the apple trees that has been holding the biggest buck I have seen on the property scraping them to all hell. Sitting in a duck nesting spot in the middle of the pond with a ground blind, wind is not a concern.
The possibilities are there, just picking now.

Option #3, with a serious thought to Option#4.

I vote for #2 if you have a reasonable route to and from the stand without bumping deer in the dark, sounds like the freshest "buck sign" yet with the big tracks. The deer are probably bedding in or around that corn.
If the sign is fresh on #4 great but it sounds more like an evening set up on a feeding pattern.
#3 sounds OK but an acsence of big tracks would concern me, that stand will be hotter when they harvest the crops and the rut kicks in.
play your gut, our opinions are without ever seeing the ground are pretty thin!

Thanks for the replies, I was hoping to get a few responses out of it. Southeast winds are predicted for saturday.

I think option 3 as long as the wind is right and they are not moving strictly at night. Or if they are not bedding in the corn.

Let me ask one question, are hunting horns or just looking for some early meat to shake the rust off. I will kill the first two does I have a shot at. Two reasons. One I am an experienced hunter but I do not have eneough "live arrows" at deer to think it will be automatic, the more experience i gain the better. Two, the landowner wants some animals harvested. Period. he scowls at me when I show up emptyhanded. (they eat his folwers and that pisses him off) Total suburban deer hunt. I have 5 acres to hunt. I sat and saw 39 does and 2 bucks in one day last november. Dumb, deer do not react to antlers here at all. Too many does to fighting over one i guess. if you are looking ot stick any deer go to #3. If you are really looking for a sneaky old buck, be patient by that corn if the wind is right. Once the corn is out all bets are off.

A nice set of racks would be nice, but I have no qualms whacking does, the land owner wants all of my tags taken out of there. so yeah i want meat and racks both.
