What if anything do you do for the Landowners that allow you to hunt their property? I have never had to pay for a lease or a trespass fee to hunt property YET.But i do offer my help in any way if ever needed or since I'm in the flooring biz.I will work something out with them when they want/need flooring.
The night before i will run up to Jewels to grab a coffee cake and leave it on their porch for them in the morning. And several times i have been told i was the only one thats ever did anything like that.I always stop in and visit after the hunt too, to say hello and give them the low down on the morning or days hunt.Little things like that make a big difference to people. And shows my gratitude and appreciation.

I help a local farmer do a few chores around his farm a few times a year. I'll help him bail hay a couple days out of the year. It's a small price to pay for the quality of hunting that his property offers.
I'm an electrician so my trade is always useful and is always easily traded for permission to hunt on people's property.

I lease my hunting land from a multi-billionair, I have never seen him and have never met him, from what I have been told he dont have time to deal with people below him, ...
But His ranch forman that I deal with is a pretty grumpy feller and I try to keep him happy and he trys to keep me madd all the time.LOL!!! Its a 5000 acre ranch all low fenced I lease 1250 arces of it with five other hunters...there is a 750 acre lease on it that is leased by 4 other hunters, and the remainder is day leased by Brazos Archery Outfitters....its pretty political but worth it....
I have a 155 acre lease that I get for free just for keeping the land maintained.......thats where I let both my Mom and Dad hunt at, and its my secret honey hole...

Wow,,, Winmag,,, I can tell you dont live in Texas,, I have permission to hunt a numerous bunch of places.. What I do for them is keep the hogs under control. I trap check fences and daily check the cows.. I saved 3 cows last year pulling calves out with my truck. I also tell them when a fence is down or cut. I also, shoot , Feral dogs... By this I dont mean peoples hog dogs but dogs that are chasing cows running calves etc.. I always look for a collar or vest.. We live right into a feed creek bottom to the lake they dump alot of strays that are starving wormy and about had it. I shoot coyotes ,bobcats and anyhogs that I see.. Ok here is the real downlow.. I can shoot a deer at any place I trap. BUTTTTTTTT I am a person that loves to sit and enjoy the woods, whether I am sitting reading my romance novels, or watching a squirrel ,I love to be outside.I also have a hard time sitting still. Thats why I read,, I read turn a page and look.. Harlequin romance are the best and the dirtiest.. Ok enough of that. It really does help.. Ok On the shinn ranch where I hunt, I help with all of the feeders and take care of all hog hunters and skinning and stuff like that, the wife of the owner cleans the beds and such.. The lease over there is 2000.00 for the season.. 1 buck and a doe in archery. I mow all the old food plots plow and seed fill the feeders and keep all the stands ready. I dont pay a thing but for food plots which I am glad to have.., I also am trying to cut and keep cedars and bad growth from growing under all big trees. I love it but Jennifer says oh man its August i will see you in Jan, I try to help my friend Kevin as much as I can .. He just wants big deer and strives for it. I also want the same thing..Whats sad is its by the bottoms and we have Hell with poachers duck hunters on the creek and deer big deer hit on the highway,, I sometimes feel we grow them and they hit them. I leave very early for work and its about a 1/4 mile from my house ,, I run deer off the road all the time.. Its hard ,, I hunted a big deer last year Jennifer and I saw him 4 times but no bow shot,I waited for gun season and he got poached a 16 point that scored 191,, the game wardens are my buddies so we got the rack and deer but IT JUSt DOESNT COUNT.. I wanted him bad I watched him in velvet.. Anyway thats what I do.. Tim

Wow Tim, sounds like your busting your ass for him and I bet he really appreciates that! I feel for ya on the road kill deal, it is bad in certain areas and the farm I hunt has a 55 mph 2 lane that runs right down through the middle of it and another real good 300 acres he has buts up against a 65 mph 4 lane divided. Jumped an awesome buck there 3 years ago during gun & he ran right at the highway. Couldn't shoot at him for all the cars & trucks, cringed as he crossed the highway thinking he was going to get hit but he didn't... Also, about 6 years ago, me & a buddy were hunting a monster 10 point on an awesome little urban parcel that was along a creek & also along the road his wife drove to work at 6:00 am Mon-Fri... yup, she totalled her trans-am into that big bruiser during rut. I couldn't believe she didn't take him full through the windshield but somehow she took him full in the front & ended up running full over him cracking the rack into pieces.

We lease property on a yearly basis and are normally dealing with a logging co. although from time to time we lease from farmers. We have offered the farmers our help whenever we can. I get to hunt some private land in Ohio that belongs to a friend of mine. We provide him and his family a place to stay when they come to TN or are passing through and he does the same in return. That has evolved into a great friendship.

The place i was speaking of i just got.And only been out there hunting pred's and now squirrels twice.Have yet to deer hunt.I also did do 2 rooms of carpet for them. And said it was for letting me hunt. But they still insisted on paying something.
Other place i helped remove a tin roof on a pole barn shed and all the electrical and lights so it could be re sheeted.Cut trees, stack hay in the barn.So i have put in some effort for the privilege to hunt some properties.
But up here, yeah, alot of guys just hunt the places. What is starting to happen is guys offering to pay for hunting rights and getting you kicked out.

I do pretty much the same as most. Run fence fence lines which is good for scouting fall a tree or two to get there fire wood stocked for the winter, roofed a couple of barns. predator management(both human and wildlife). give meat and other goodies. I also always stoppin and show off my take and general chit chat. stuff like that.

I have a lease in arkansas that is owned by ...I have no idea. It has been sold off by the timber companies so many times the last few years I cant keep up. I guess what I do for them is pay their taxes...nothing more. I have a lease in Texas from a couple private landowners, great guys. What I do for them is pick up any garbage left by by previous leasors, always close the gates, let them know if I am gonna be there hunting at night and basiclly be courteous. Every time I go I stop by and shoot the bull for a while (year round). They appreciate it and I enjoy it. I always offer a take of the game and show them what I got off of their land. I share trail cam pics with them, bring them something from vacations I take. Just took em some vermont maple syrup last week. Best thing I ever did was give the main leasor an ugly LSU ball cap my sister gave me(she was living there for a while). The ole man was tickled to death over that. I think the main thing is to not just show up a month before season, but be a real friend and show your appreciation for what they do. Little gestures go a long way. And is sad but in todays world most folks dont believe in taking the time for those little gestures that mean so much to some. Think I had too many beers tongiht.

WinMag I wasnt trying to sound bad when I sad I could tell you werent from Texas,, I was meaning most places here you have to lease and it can get expensive,,I know some people that pay 10000.00 to hunt,, Heck even down in Laredo at the callahgan ranch its 20000.00 a year ,, big deer but Man I couldnt do it. The days here are numbered when you can go and help out a landowner and get to hunt.. what happens is say I take a freind and the next thing he brings a freind and they bring a freind and so on the next thing you know you have guys that you dont know and they are hunting. It ruined for alot of good guys around here..I am just lucky I provde a service to the landowners..Tim

I'm saving that one for another day anyway, I have seen the switch from chores to $$, more and more property is posted" hunting lease" that sucks for folke like me, i offer to help with the fencing and usually got turned down, "just get them things off my land" I try to offer some vennie but they always have enough, i also seek out Ag damage recipients, a few will try and just get by with the minimal # of deer harvested, others genuinely want the program to work, most do turkey hunting is another story, but i have yet to actually put any physically effort towards the cause, not that i haven't offered, but i usually hunt public land.

I have 350 acres here and the guy gives me the run of it 365 days a year. and prettymuch as for nothing in return but to KILL ALL THE DOES I CAN because he raise veggies and sells them to the fancy restarants. He also has a music festival the 3rd week in sept. every year and I have offers to do the first aid for it since the company he use to contract with stood him up a couple years back. and since I am a PARAMEDIC FIREFIGHTER by trade he ask if I could help. He offers to pay me for getting the people to do it but I WOULDNT FEEL RIGHT TAKING THE MONEY since I can do whatever I want whenever I want on the farm. The folks that I get to work the first aid dont want money either which makes it look go on me. All they want is for their wives to be able to come with them for the festival. There is no way I would ever take a dime from him for doing that. He is insistant about paying me so I just tell him to make a donation to the local vol. fire dept. since that is where I get the help. the festival is 4 days long and about all we ever do is give out a few bandaids.
