I know some of us guys here are either married, engaged, or have a girlfriend etc... so with that in mind.... What excuses do you use to justify purchases, time spent out in the woods, time spent on here etc ? Share your "tricks of the trade" as we all may be able to learn a little something from each other to add to our bag of tricks!

When we first started going out, I told her flat out, when I want to hunt and fish, I'm going...period. She understood, and that was four years ago. But now she comes scouting with me. I even got her to agree to buy a boat sometime in the future. Told her if she didn't want to fish, she could just lie in the back of the boat and soak up sun while I fished.

Jayme, I get my fiance to do the same thing... she really doesn't get into fishing so I tell her it's a great opportunity to get a tan so she tags along. She goes out scouting and hunting with me for turkey but no deer. Now, when I buy things.... my best excuse to this day is "Think of it this way... I won't have to buy it next year" Throw in a compliment or two and I'm golden. Works like a charm... sometimes. The times it doesn't... well, I go out and buy it anyway... but I just hide it and the receipt until later and if she ever questions when I got it I just say.. "Oh, I've had it for the longest time"

Nice pic, Mike. About buying things, I always budget way more for an item when I am thinking about buying a new piece of equipment. It's for the bribe (diamond earrings, necklace, new shoes, etc.)

Mine is like that too, LOVES garage sales. But, she do like the bling-bling. I figure it this way. If I buy something for me, then a little something for her, that usually "allows" me another two to three items after that. Gob...Nice pic.

I always had trouble with the first wife, after we were married. Nothing worked. She just expected that I would bend to her wishes and stop hunting. When that didn't happen, she was on my case constantly. She felt that she was entitled to go shopping every weekend, and that I should stay home and watch the kids.
My new one is just happy when I come home on a regular basis. I don't get drunk and beat her, and I don't steal her money and blow it on drugs and whores. In return, I'm happy just to find her back at camp and cooking a nice venison roast and not out blowing may paycheck on double lattes at the mall. It makes no difference to me if she fetches me my slippers.
I think the lesson I've learned is that the key to happiness in marriage is managing your partner's expectations successfully.

I started dating my wife a few weeks before deer season started in 91. On friday before opening day 91,I remember her coming to my house and asking what i was packing for. I told her it was hunting season and that i would probably be gone on the weekends and some weekdays. She already knew that i hunted with my dad some but to that point had no idea to what extent i was dedicated to hunting. She never fussed about it and said i will see you when you get back. Well with an attitude like that i figured i better marry her so we did that next spring. To this day she has never questioned me about the time i spend afield. Her friends have asked here more than once over the years if it bothers her that i am gone a lot because of hunting and she just tells them that i love to hunt and she is fine with it. Thats my girl... Also when it comes to buying something that is hunting related, well that is a different ballgame. I tend to pick items up and put them with my gear or in the safe before they are seen by my wife. If she cant see them then there wont be any questions asked and that suits me fine. Most of the time i just buy my hunting gear with rat hole money so nothing is missing from the bank account.... As far as being on here? I do a little internet business so she is used to me being on the internet often. Also, i have a finished basement that is converted into my game, internet and hunting room. If i'm down here then she assumes that i am working on the computer or cleaning a gun or etc......
