Hey everyone, thought it might be cool or interestering to see the turkey i just mounted for my cousin, i called in this bird for him and ive only done a few. I put in some pictures on how i mounted it and the steps i took.
First obviously i skinned it out completly, from leg to leg, i skinned it during august so i had to go fast
Here is a picture of the form, head, and tail
Next after fleshing it i soaked it in a big tub of water with dawn dish soap for around 30min, i resoak it again and rince well, then i put it in a 5gallon bucket of mineral spirits to degreese it even better for 10min, while it is soaking i attach the feet to the form by wireing them
Once the skin is done soaking, i tumble it for around 20min in a tumbler i made with a garage door motor and a 30gal plastic drum and it has corn cob grit in it, its almost like sawdust
Here the skin is fairly dry out of the tumbler
After tumbling, i blow dry for 20min or so...
Once done blowdrying, i sew up all the shot holes, or holes i made while skinning or fleshing
Once sewing the holes is done, i wire the wings (sorry the pic ist the greatest)
Once i have the wings wired, i can now start to mount the bird, i attach the wires to the body and pull the skin over
I then sew up the incision and attach it to a base, or piece of wood laying around and put the tail on
Once that is done I attach the head, and then its trying to make the turkey look real, i lean it downwards so gravity can help the feathers stand and put tape where it is needed to keep feathers in place and groom it well
Now, it is not totally complete as you can see tape is still everywhere but its just drying right now, and i still have some finial grooming to do for a few days, but i thought ide share my hobby, hope you enjoyed, and good luck hunting!
