I don't have any pictures of turkeys. I have only done fans up until this season. I havn't gotten around to mounting the one in my freezr yet. he ought to turn out nice. I think he was 26lbs.. Nope never mounted a hen. Those are not to popular in Georgia. But their not any different realy than mounting a Male Turkey...

Yeah.... Freeze drying the heads is the best thing to do. The replica heads are fake and look fake. I won't use them....
Very unlikely you will ever shoot a bird like that one again. Nice bird. I've worked at other taxidermy shops and helped them with their turkeys befor but never from start to finnish. I usually endup fleshing them but have helped mount a few and it isn't very hard.
I've just never brought turkey in from customer til this year..had pleanty ppl call me to do them but usually send the hunter to a freinds shop. This was my first year bringing them in...

I hope you took lots of pictures of your Bird... Especialy up close of the head...If NOT...make sure you take several pictures of the Turkeys Head befor you take it to the taxidermist. The Taxidermists needs to match the bird up with the original colors of the head.
That turkeys head is not red like a normal turkey... so it looks from the picture. It's more grey and white like the rest of the turkey. Make sure you specify this to the taxidermist. Being a good taxidermist isn't about making a bird look alive and real.... It is making the bird look like it did when it was alive with the original colors, feather placement, etc, etc, etc. No two birds are alike.

Yes I do mount turkeys and will post some pics in the next few days. I send all my turkey heads out to have them freeze dried and painted. I don't think the artificial heads can hold a candle to a well painted, freeze dried head.
A bearded hen is a special trophy! I've only seen two in the last 15 years. I will send you a PM with some suggestions.

Thats the kind of pictures you will want to take to the taxidermist. He will need to match the colors of the hens head. Other wise you will just get a regularly painted one. That will look a bit goofy with the color phase of that particular bird.

Here is a pic. of my bearded hen. I chose this mount because she had NO feathers on her belly and it hides that a lot better than walking or flying would. The beard is kinda hard to see in the pic., but it is actualy a prety healthy beard for a hen 5 1/4"
